Saturday, April 25 come to Rome! Etsy Italia Team and Vendetta Uncinetta invited Anna Maltz to hold a workshop that, according to my humble opinion, will make history.
You surely have some distressed jeans to fix, don’t you? True, torn jeans are cool, but how about wearing the ones you fixed with your holy (and probably not so able) hands, thanks to the mending techniques Anna Maltz is gonna teach us, and thanks to the help and simultaneous translation by Gaia Segattini?!
You should know: fun is where Gaia is. That’s why I come from Turin and my friend Fusilla from Alghero, just for the occasion.
I never met Anna, but I can’t wait! She called Gaia a cheerleading organizer on her Instagram profile (and I immediately imagined her with mega pompom in her hands): however, in my opinion she has already understood everything and won’t be surprised when she will meet the crazy mad girls that are always around Gaia.
But let’s talk about serious things: what are we going to learn at the workshop?
We will use simple sewing techniques that combine the traditional darning, quilting and embroidery to repair and renew your jeans. The workshop will begin with a discussion and viewing some pictures of traditional Asian techniques such as Kantha, Boro and Sashiko and how these techniques have been recently rediscovered and updated. Then we will start the practical application with an eye to contemporary aesthetics.
Looking for some words, almost unknown to me since now, as Darning, Sashiko, Boro, Kantha Cloth, Gee’s Bend Quilts,… a brand new world opened up, I’m sure it would be the same for you too!
Well, to be totally honest, I was convinced as soon as I saw the posters designed by Irene Renon!
