Portego is a project founded in 2014 by Flavia Texts and Stefano Rossi: two designers who decided to set up their own business to create a virtual laboratory that makes designers collaborate with craftsmen in the area of Veneto, in North-East Italy, carefully selected with the aim to preserving the traditional manufacturing of the territory.
The project puts together the knowledge of traditional local materials with digital technologies and the creativity of the designers involved.
At fuorisalone 2015 they exhibited in the Ventura-Lambrate area and presented here the first four products, expected to be ten by the autumn: so don’t miss Portego’s contacts at the bottom of this article, to be updated in next months!
Mr Step
Mr Step is the very first project by Portego, designed by Flavia Testi and Stefano Rossi. It’s a table made with marble in two colors, from a quarry near Verona: Giallo Reale and Bronzetto Verona. The line and the joint between the two elements create an interesting contrast with the material used, which is very hard and durable.
Self portrait
Designed by Ilaria Innocenti and Giorgio Laboratore: a beautiful hand mirror, whose handle is inspired by the shape of a paper fan, perfectly reproduced thanks to the work of a skilled italian carver. The mirror plate is made of galvanized steel.
Sottoportico
A carpet designed by Swiss Seraina Lareida, inspired by Venice, its porches and canals, creating a very evocative abstract form and choosing colors typical of the Venetian cityscape. The carpet is made with the tafting technique, using only high quality New Zealand wool and pioneering the use of the maximum number of colors possible with the weaving machine.
Slightsea Lamp
A table lamp designed by Matteo Leorato: it’s not yet available, but if you were in Milan you had thee possibility to see it at the booth.
