Spring means markets to me: I already know it’s going to be an amazing season. Last year I started very late, at MIAMI festival, but this time I’m ready. The first event is in my city, Torino: sunday I went to San Salvario Emporium (I wrote about it already here) and now I’m going to tell me about my best findings.
Isoì

My first discovery is a project that I’ve been following for a while online and which has become lately a physical space too, a lab in Milan.
The idea of Isoì was born from the encounter between the illustrator Gaia Bernasconi and Daniele Desperati, graphic designer: the whole project is inspired by the landscapes of Ionian Greece, noir illustration scenarios and a revisiting of ex-votos. The talent of Gaia is truly immense and Daniele is very good in the role of narrator of fantastic stories.
At the end I bought some print proofs of the artist’s book Organicamente: an illustrated story, a accordion book bound by hand and screen printed in three colors and gold leaf 18k.
I look forward to the Design Week to have time to visit the lab there!

I liked Giulia immediately: she collects matryoshkas and she is excited to talk about her work. She likes drawing, embroidering, carving and painting birds, especially.
Cornja + Tegumenti

Sergio and Ginevra are together at the market and it is nice to see how two different collections, for materials and creator, can be so coherent with each another: the Cornja jewelry is made with sections of frames and metal (brass, silver and aluminum), while Teguments are made of fabric and brass.

Anna Basile works in Turin and that’s why I won’t lose the opportunity to visit her studio, where she produces handmade pottery. I like a lot the hanging pots and kitchen jars… and saucers are irresistible!

Finally a project from Torino that I didn’t know and that I was very impressed of: a youth center in a suburb with a workshop and a tailor lab open to all those who want to repair and try with small productions, even with the aid of the No profic Organisation that organises the project. And shortly there will be a vegetable garden too!
During the workshops, involving young people of the area, ideas come to life and they are put into production, as the Origami Light. And then there are many other product Made in Boat bags, T-shirts, lamps, boxes and accessories that you can buy directly on the site.
